Soundproofing the Rental Apartment in Pocket-friendly Way

Soundproofing your apartment becomes a necessity, especially if you live in a noisy neighborhood. If you, however, live in a rented apartment, soundproofing is an expensive expenditure, and there's no point in spending thousands of dollars on a house where one might not live for a long time. The expense increases if we talk about bigger houses such as 3 bedroom apartments in San Angelo or any other city for that matter, where the demand of rental properties is high. So, let's see some pocket-friendly ways to soundproof the rental apartment:

Add Extra Texture

Hang curtains on windows, put rugs on the floor and add fabric wall hangings on the wall for blocking out the noise coming from outside. If budget allows, tenants may also use a rug as tapestry and wall art for soundproofing the space. Hang heavy curtains made of velvet or any other thick fabric on the walls. Ensure that the curtains are tight against the ceiling, side walls, and floor.

What to consider:

When you choose upholstery for the house, it is important to know the difference between sound absorbing and blocking fabrics. While sound absorbing fabric reduces the level of noise inside the house, sound blocking fabrics help to block outside noise. There are several such products available in the market such as temporary sound blocking quilt that you can use to reduce noise coming from outside.

Rearranging Furniture

The simplest way to reduce the noise coming from outside is by rearranging the furniture. Put large bookshelves, for instance, against the wall of the noisy neighbors and move the bed away from the walls that let in more noise.

Stick Drywall

Sticking drywall to the ceiling is the an effective way to soundproof your apartment. It is, however, not a very feasible option for apartments wherein, a tenant is not allowed to carry out any improvement without the approval of the landlord. It is recommended to seek the permission of the landlord before you stick drywall or use sealant to fill the cracks and gaps.

Last Few Words

Home is the place where an individual hopes to get some peace and soundproofing it is the only way to deal with the noise coming from outside. Hearing the conversations of neighbors is unpleasant and often irritates the person. It is, therefore, better to either do an online research to look for affordable ways to soundproof the house or talk to someone who has already done this at own place.
